Treatment for Bad Breath
This fortnight I would like to focus on questions regarding Bad Breath. Please forward your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
Shall we start with the most obvious question:
Can I Treat Bad Breath?
Improving your oral hygiene i usually sufficient to treat bad breath (halitosis). So first and foremast you must treat any gum disease.
When you see your dentist or hygienist it is extremely helpful if you can handover a diary of the foods you are eating, smoking history and medication history as these can all have a bearing on your halitosis.
Brushing your teeth and gums last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste will significantly reduce your bad breath. Don't forget to brush/scrape your tongue too. This is key. At Billericay Dental Care we recommend and sell wisdom tongue cleaner and we receive alot of positivefeedback about what a difference it can make.
Sometimes bad breath can be a sign of a more serious problem so visit your dentist regularly.
Here are a few more simple remedies
Cut down on how often you have sugary food and drinks.
Clean in between your teeth with interdental brushes once a day
Use a mouthwash - some contain antibacterial agents that could kill bacteria that make your breath smell unpleasant.
Chew sugar-free gum - it helps your mouth produce saliva and stops it drying out. A dry mouth can lead to bad breath.
