Dermal Fillers FAQ

What are Dermal Fillers made of?

The majority of dermal fillers are made up of a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule that binds water in the skin, called hyaluronic acid. This chemical then works with the remaining collagen and elastin in your body to support the proteins in your skin that keep you looking youthful. The proteins then plump up the area under your skin, which can help to smooth out wrinkles and creases in the face, or add extra volume to your cheeks and lips. Different formulas are available to treat varying degrees of wrinkles and a range of desired effects.

What can Dermal Fillers correct?

Most of our patients ask about dermal fillers to reduce the signs of aging, but they can also be used to change or enhance your current features. Dermal fillers are ideal for: • Frown lines • Down turned mouths • Nose to mouth lines • Lines from the corner of the mouth down to the chin • Under-eye lines/bags • Crow’s feet • Recessed scars • Thin lips • Sunken cheeks • Eyebrow lines

How long will the effects last?

This tends to depend on the kind of filler used for your treatment. • Collagen lasts three to four months. • Hyaluronic acid lasts around four to six months. • Calcium hydroxylapatite lasts about eighteen months. • Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) can last between seven months and two years. • Polymethylmethacrylate beads (PMMA) are permanent, but the riskiest option of all Dermal Fillers. Your practitioner will decide which type of dermal filler is best for you based on your medical history and the effects you want to see. They’ll also let you know how often you’ll need follow up appointments to maintain your final look.

Will my Dermal Fillers treatment be painful?

If you’re worried about your fillers hurting, we’re happy to apply local anaesthetic creams beforehand. During your procedure, your practitioner will deliver your filler as gently as possible then massage the area. The treatment time can take between 30 minutes to an hour.

How long might my recovery time be?

For around 24 hours after your treatment, you may find the area around your fillers is a little red, bruised, itchy or tender. These are normal temporary side effects that usually disappear within a few days. We advise our patients avoid coffee, hot drinks, alcohol and the sun until the side effects have worn off. You may also want to put off strenuous activities for a day or two after your treatment. Other than that, you should be able to resume your normal activities straight away.

Are there any risks involved?

One of the reasons Dermal Fillers are so popular across the world is because they are considered extremely safe. Allergic reactions are almost unheard of, and infections are incredibly rare for this procedure. Our practitioners are highly trained and use only the highest quality fillers, which will greatly decrease any potential risks.

One of the most effective and safe anti-aging treatments.

Dermal fillers are an incredibly effective non-surgical solution to restore your youthful appearance by smoothing out wrinkles and plumping up lips and cheeks.

With highly-visible and positive results after only one treatment, they are quickly becoming one of the most popular anti-aging therapies on offer.

Giving you back your vitality and confidence, dermal fillers can be used to achieve:

• Plumper lips

• Fuller cheeks

• Smooth, wrinkle-free skin

• Enhanced features

• A natural looking contour

• Improved appearance of acne scars

• A more supple and voluminous face

At around the age of just 25, our bodies stop making elastin and collagen – the proteins that keep our tissue firm and our skin stretchy. That’s when we start to show the signs of aging; sunken cheeks, deep lines and wrinkles, thinner lips and hollow eyes.

Dermal Fillers restore that suppleness to your face, leaving you looking – and feeling – younger, healthier and happier.
